Audubon North Carolina works for science-based policies protecting our forests, wetlands, rivers, coast and other important areas so that our natural heritage will be preserved for generations to come. Our approaches to this work emphasize collaborations with other conservation groups, land trusts, government, industry, and private citizens.
The Important Bird Areas (IBAs) of North Carolina provide the focal points for our policy efforts. Conserving and defending these vital areas remain our highest priority. Among the current IBA protection campaigns involving policy efforts are:
We also recognize the importance of statewide and national policies supporting the environment we all share and depend on for clean water and other natural resources, including abundant wildlife. As a state office of the National Audubon Society, we seek to connect our 12,000 grassroots members to larger state and national networks pursuing environmental protection.
