Primary Threats: disturbance to birds, erosion

Protection Status: The site is protected and managed by the US Fish and Wildlife Service and is part of the Cedar Island National Wildlife Refuge.

Conservation Issues: 

Birds: Tump Island has long supported nesting wading birds, gulls, terns and skimmers.  The island has been battered in recent years by storms, but habitat remains suitable for nesting waterbirds.
