Swan Island is a natural island located in southern Pamlico Sound.

Primary Threats: disturbance to nesting birds
Protection Status: The site is not protected and managed and ownership is uncertain. However, the remote location of this island presents few problems with human disturbances.
Conservation Issues: Disturbance to nesting birds is a concern.
Birds: Swan Island supports a large colony of nesting wading birds (Criteria 4f), including one of the state's largest colonies of Glossy Ibis. Other nesting species include Great Egret, Little Blue Heron, Forster's Tern, Laughing Gull and Herring Gull. Brown Pelicans and Royal Terns have nested in some years.
