Old House Channel, Island C

Total Size: 20 acres
Site Description: Island C is an undiked dredged material island located
in northeastern Pamlico Sound, near Oregon Inlet.
Habitats: shrub/scrub, bare sand, grassland
Land Use: wildlife conservation
Primary Threats: disturbance to birds
Protection Status: The site is protected and managed by the NC Wildlife
Resources Commission.
Conservation Issues: The island is posted and patrolled, but human
disturbances during the nesting season is a serious concern.
Birds: The site supports a large colony of nesting wading birds (criteria 4f).
